Darlene Shiley is an artistic, gregarious woman of influence, whose varied interests - which range from theater arts to science to education -  have inspired and motivated her to make a difference in people's lives.  Darlene and her husband, Donald, are among San Diego County's most generous philanthropists, giving away millions of dollars each year to causes that are near and dear to their hearts. The Shileys have been longtime and regular supporters of the Scripps institutions. The Shiley Center is the home of the Scripps Center for Integrative Medicine. Generous to the Scripps Research Institute, Darlene is President of the Scripps Research Council. Beneficiaries of charitable gifts from the Shileys include:

• The Old Globe Theatre

• KPBS

• The Shiley Eye Center and Shiley-Marcos Alzheimer's Disease Research Center at the University of California San Diego (UCSD)

• The Donald Pearce Shiley Center for Science  and Technology at the University of San Diego (USD). 

In addition to contributing financially to many non-profit organizations, Darlene also donates her time by sitting on their boards, councils and committees.

Darlene has been a Member and Chairperson of the AFPSD National Philanthropy Day Honorary Committee.
