Endowment Fundraising: What Exactly Are We Afraid Of?

One of the biggest challenges for not-for-profit organizations is raising endowment funds. Sometimes the challenge comes from donors who only want to fund today’s programs, sometimes the challenge comes from Board members who are focused on today’s “bottom line,” and sometimes the challenge comes from our own fears about not knowing enough to speak intelligently to donors about endowed gifts.

This session will help de-mystify endowments, provide new ways to think about raising endowed gifts, show how to help our volunteer and professional leaders understand the importance of endowed funds, and demonstrate how to tap into donors’ interests to start a conversation about endowed gifts. Also, rather than thinking about endowment fundraising as the “top of the pyramid,” ways to incorporate it throughout all aspects of our work will be presented.

Learning Objectives:

  • Describe three ways to encourage board and professional leadership buy-in to raising endowment.
  • Articulate three values endowment funding provides to the donor.
  • Discuss way to incorporate endowment fundraising throughout pre-existing activities during the year.
  • Revise personal paradigm about endowment fundraising.

Target Audience:

This session is most useful for mid level, senior level, and advanced
level fundraisers in all countries.

About the Presenter:
