Culture of Philanthropy Nomination Form
Nominations Have Closed
Submission Deadline Was 5:00 p.m. Friday, May 28, 2010
NOMINATION PROCESS
The nomination process has been streamlined to a one-step process.
Complete the nomination form online by filling in catagories A, B, C
and completing the Essay. The Honorary Committee, comprised of past
award recipients, select the awardees.
NOMINATION RULES

Nominations are accepted only via online submission (see link at
the bottom of this page) by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 28, 2010.
Nominations via regular mail will not be accepted. Late entries
after 5:00 p.m. on May 28, 2010 will not be accepted.
- The
Nomination Essay is not to exceed 400 words.
- Incomplete nominations will not be accepted. Categories A, B
C and the Essay need to be completed.
- Multiple nominations are encouraged.
- Previous honorees are not eligible for consideration unless
their nomination is for a category that is different from what
they were honored for in the past.
- Nominators will receive a confirmation email after the
nomination is received.
- Nominators will be notified about the selection of their
nominees on July 10.
- Honorees must agree to be present to accept their award at
the San Diego Philanthropy Day Awards Luncheon on Wednesday,
November 3, 2010. In addition, Honorees must be available
for a one hour session to be videotaped in late August, 2010.
Collaborative nominations by non-profit agencies
are highly encouraged in all categories. Your nomination essay (not
to exceed 400 words) should include the information, specified for
each category, with specific examples of your nominee’s
accomplishments during the past year(s). It is also helpful to
include the nominee’s other affiliations and volunteer work in the
community.
Outstanding Organizational Volunteer:
This award recognizes a volunteer who has made a significant impact
on the success of nonprofit organizations through his/her volunteers
service and/or volunteer leaderships.
- Evidence of quality of leadership and organizational ability
in giving time to an organization’s programs. (0-25 points)
- Description of time, effort and financial commitment. (0-25
points)
- Description of fund raising goals achieved by his/her
effort. (0-15 points)
- Evidence of success in recruiting and motivating others.
(0-20 points)
- Description of participation in other community, regional or
national non-profits organizations.(0-15 points)
Outstanding Development/Fundraising Volunteer:
This award recognizes a volunteer who has demonstrated
exceptional leadership skills in coordinating and motivating groups
of volunteers for a major fund raising project(s) for the benefit of
one or more nonprofit organizations.
- Evidence of quality of leadership and organizational ability
in fund raising campaigns. (0-25 points)
- Indicate how long your nominee has been fundraising on your
agency’s behalf. Include description of time, effort and
financial commitment. (0-25 points)
- Description of fund raising goals achieved by his/her
effort. (0-15 points)
- Evidence of success in recruiting and motivating others.
(0-20 points)
- Description of participation in other community, regional or
national non-profits organizations. (0-15 points)
Outstanding Philanthropic Organization:
This award recognizes a civic organization, private
foundation or grant-making service organization that has
demonstrated an outstanding commitment to philanthropy through
financial support, its commitment to community involvement and
through encouragement and motivation of others to take leadership
roles in philanthropy to the community.
- Evidence of direct gift support indicated by support
of projects in the community, regionally or
nationally including a description of impact of gift support on
the above projects. (0-40 points)
- Description of specific achievements accomplished through
the organization’s efforts.
(0-20 points)
- Evidence of encouragement and motivation given to others to
take leadership roles in philanthropy and community involvement.
(0-15 points)
- Evidence of philanthropic support of innovative approaches
to solving problems. (0-25 points)
Outstanding Philanthropic Corporation:
This award recognizes a business, corporation or
employee-managed grant-making fund that has demonstrated an
outstanding commitment to philanthropy and community service through
financial support and through encouragement and motivation of others
to take leadership roles toward philanthropy and community
involvement.
- Evidence of direct gift support indicated by support of
projects in the community, regionally or nationally
including a description of impact of gift support on the above
projects. (0-40 points)
- Description of specific achievements accomplished through
the organization’s efforts.
(0-20 points)
- Evidence of encouragement and motivation given to others to
take leadership roles in philanthropy and community involvement.
(0-15 points)
- Evidence of philanthropic support of innovative approaches
to solving problems. (0-25 points)
Outstanding Celebrity Volunteer:
This award recognizes a volunteer who through their
public persona or public notoriety, has demonstrated a commitment of
time for the benefit of a charitable organization.
- Evidence of quality of leadership and organizational
ability in giving time to an organization’s programs. (0-25
points)
- Description of time, effort and financial commitment. (0-25
points)
- Description of fund raising goals achieved by his/her
effort. (0-15 points)
- Evidence of success in recruiting and motivating others.
(0-20 points)
- Description of participation in other community, regional or
national non-profits organizations. (0-15 points)
Outstanding Youth/Student Volunteer:
This award recognizes service by young people (age 14
through 18) who have demonstrated outstanding commitment to the
community through direct financial support and leadership of
philanthropy.
- Evidence of direct financial support including a description
of the impact of this gift support.
(0-35 points)
- Description of specific achievements accomplished through
the youth group’s efforts including number of volunteers and
hours as well as length of service. (0-45 points)
- Evidence of philanthropic support of innovative approaches
to problem solving. (0-20 points)
Outstanding Philanthropist:
This award recognizes a family or an individual with a record of
exceptional generosity who, through direct financial support has
demonstrated outstanding civic and charitable responsibility, and
whose generosity encourages others to take philanthropic leadership
roles on a community, regional or national level.
- Evidence of direct gift support including a description of
impact of gift support. (0-40 points)
- Evidence of encouragement and motivation given to others to
take leadership roles in philanthropy. (0-25 points)
- Description of participation and gift support of other
non-profits - in the community, regionally or nationally.
(0-20 points)
- Evidence of philanthropic support of innovative approaches
to solving problems. (0-15 points)
