Dear Friend of Philanthropy,

Please join the San Diego Chapter of the Association of Fundraising Professionals as we plan to celebrate this year’s National Philanthropy Day on Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina. National Philanthropy Day® (NPD) is a special day set aside each year to show appreciation for all that has been accomplished in the name of giving, as well as show there is still more to do. It’s our chance to step into the spotlight for a brief moment and remind our community, our society and the world that the spirit of giving is alive and well.

To recognize the great contributions philanthropy—and those people active in the philanthropic community—have made to our San Diego community, we ask you to nominate one or more individuals and/or organizations you believe best exemplify the “Giving Heart.”

This year, any not-for-profit whose nominee is selected as an honoree will receive a $500 grant to further their charitable mission.* Please carefully review the description for each award category. Also included are a nomination form and a list of past honorees. You may submit nominations for several categories. If so, simply print and duplicate the nomination form provided, or submit your nominations on-line.

All nominations must be received by Friday, May 23, 2008 at 5 p.m.

The contact person at your organization will be notified of this year’s honorees as soon as our honorary committee completes its process. If your nominee is selected as a finalist, you will be asked to submit additional information. Your invitation to the National Philanthropy Day® luncheon will be mailed in the Fall. * If multiple organizations nominate the same candidate, and that candidate is selected, the grant money will be equally divided. Grant recipients must be qualified 501(c)(3) organizations.
