Confessions of a Recovering Development Professional
Currently Chairman of Mingei International Museum's Board of
Trustees and 2007 Outstanding Organizational Volunteer, Maureen King has the
advantage of having spent many years as a development professional. She
will share her insights and experiences about what a volunteer, particularly a
board member/chair needs from the development staff to be successful and vice
versa, what a development pro should expect from a volunteer and what they can
do to get the most out of a volunteer's expertise

Confessions of a Recovering Development Professional
Bio: Maureen King
Maureen King currently serves as chairman of
Mingei International Museum's Board of Trustees, leading the organization
through an important transition from a founder-led to a director and Board-led
institution. Prior assignments include serving as Vice Chairman of the Museum’s
Board, leading the Board's Search Committee for a new director in 2005 and
chairing the Museum's 2004 Anniversary Celebration. Maureen also currently
serves as Vice Chairman of the Mercy Hospital Foundation, helping oversee
philanthropic fund development for Scripps Mercy Hospital.
A graduate of the University of San Diego, highlights of Maureen's career
include serving as Executive Director and Chief Financial Officer of Mothers
Embracing Nuclear Disarmament (1987-1993), as Mingei International Museum's
Director of Development 1983-1986 and 1997-2002 and being a fundraising and
management consultant for numerous non-profit organizations. Maureen has been
honored with the Bishop Charles Francis Buddy Award from USD in 1984, given in
recognition of her significant contributions and commitment to humanitarian
causes. She has also received the Distinguished Volunteer Service Award from the
United Way of San Diego and the Junior League of San Diego, Inc.
