Strategic and Campaign Planning:  Creating a “Roadmap” for Success

Join us for the panel discussion presentation, Utilization of a Strategic and Campaign Plan-The Funder’s Perspective on Strategic and Campaign Planning, to learn how to implement and utilize a plan that outlines the steps that need to be taken to achieve specific goals or outcomes in our organizations.

Laura Mustari - Laura is the Executive Director of YMCA Youth & Family Services (YFS), and she is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 20 years of experience working with youth and their families. She has spent ten of these years providing direct services to adolescents and has been the executive director for the past twelve years. Under her leadership, YFS has grown from 8 programs to 35, with a budget that grew from $1.8 million to nearly $10 million. As the executive director she provides oversight for the programs, contracts, and staff and serves as the staff officer to the 35-member YMCA Youth & Family Services Board of Management, which advises and directs the department. She began as a youth and family counselor and spent nearly six years as director of the Oz North Coast Teen Shelter. Laura is active in numerous community coalitions, collaboratives and groups including the Girls Issues Group, serving as Past President of the Balboa Park Collaborative, Chair of the San Diego City Schools Medical Collaborative, Vice Chair of Public Policy for the Western States Youth Services Network Board of Directors, and is the regional representative on the National Council on Youth Policy, of the National Network for Youth.

Paul Van Dolah - Paul serves as the principal of Van Dolah & Associates. Van Dolah & Associates specializes in serving non-profit community organizations, medical groups and health care organizations. Prior to establishing Van Dolah & Associates, Paul served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Children’s Hospital and Health Center, San Diego from 1988 through 2003. During his tenure Children’s dramatically grew in size and scope. It doubled the size of its main campus, entered into numerous strategic partners with other regional healthcare providers and implemented one of the Nation’s largest integrated delivery systems in partnership with primary care and specialty medical groups. Paul is a member of the American College of Health Care Executives, the American Management Association, the Healthcare Financial Management Association, the Social Entrepreneurs Alliance and the Medical Group Management Association. He teaches business development and strategic planning in the graduate program at the University of San Diego.

Renee Resco - Renee graduated from University of San Diego and holds a Master's degree in Instructional Leadership. She has worked in the field of fundraising for 14 years, including her first position as a program coordinator then eventually Executive Director at Family Literacy Foundation where she is still on the Advisory Board. Renee worked in Alumni Relations at National University and as the Director of Membership for the San Diego Natural History Museum. She has been at Helen Woodward Animal Center for almost 7 years and is currently the Director of Development. The Center is in the "quiet phase" of a $50 million campaign to rebuild its current facilities including an extensive variety of programs that bring animals and people together and educational facilities for visiting shelter personnel from around the country.

Donald Fellows - Don joined Marts & Lundy as a senior consultant in 2000 bringing more than twenty years of fundraising experience in higher education to the firm. Prior to joining Marts & Lundy, he served as director of development at the University of San Diego and, from 1985 to 1990, he was associate director of development and director of corporate and foundation relations at the Stanford Business School where he was primarily responsible for seeking major gifts in support of the school’s operating and capital needs as part of Stanford’s $1.1 billion “Centennial Campaign.” As an active member of CASE and AFP, he has served on the Board of Directors of CASE District VII. Don has been active in the San Diego community as a volunteer board member of the Century Club of San Diego, Westview High School Foundation, the Rancho Family YMCA and the Association of Fundraising Professionals San Diego Chapter.
