AFP San Diego AFPSD A Close Look at the Hispanic Community and You Presentation:
Beth Jarosz is an Analyst with the San Diego Association of Governments. Her previous research includes work with the Greater Phoenix Economic Council and the Rhode Island Economic Policy Council. Beth’s areas of expertise include regional quality of life research, population modeling and regional forecasting. Her recent publications include a chapter entitled “Creating an Index to Evaluate a Region’s Competitiveness” in Quality of Life Indicators: Best Practices as well as various INFO bulletins on San Diego region demographic and economic trends. Beth holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Economics from the University of Rhode Island.

Lucy Killea, Ph.D is an American and Latin American historian. She is one of the first individuals to "recognize the importance of communication across the California-Mexico border" and therefore helped to found Fronteras de las Californias, "a nonprofit liaison with Mexico funded by the City of San Diego, UCSD, and private corporations." Dr. Killea is the past CEO and current Fellow at the International Community Foundation. Dr. Killea is perhaps most well-known for her eighteen years of service as an elected official, serving on the San Diego City Council (1978-82); in the California State Assembly (1982-89); and in the State Senate (1989-96). * * * * * Larry T. Baza is a native San Diegan of Mexican American and Guamanian heritage. He has worked as an arts administrator and advocate in San Diego for twenty-five years and has held directorships for the County of San Diego’s Public Arts Advisory Council, Sushi Performance and Visual Art and the Centro Cultural De La Raza. He has served on the boards of directors for local, state and national arts advocacy organizations, the Chicano Federation and the National Performance Network. He also has been a grant panelist for the San Diego Commission for Arts and Culture, the California Arts Council, and the National Endowment for the Arts. Baza was appointed by former City Council Member Christine Kehoe to the Civic Events and Special Promotions Board. His work in the arts has been driven by a “firm belief in the important role that the arts can play in the healthy development of people and communities.” Larry has served as a Board Member for San Diego LGBT Pride and for Bienestar Human Services. He now works as a public relations and fine arts consultant for The Fingerhut Gallery in La Jolla. * * * * * Linda Caballero-Merritt is the President and CEO of the 970-member San Diego County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, an organization committed to promoting a favorable business climate for emerging businesses, advancing economic development, providing fair and equitable access to the market place, and supporting education and cultural initiatives for the Greater San Diego Hispanic Community. With a B.A. and an M.A. in International Business, with emphasis in ethnic marketing, Caballero-Merritt has over 15 years experience in the professional field as a marketing executive for high profile national and international projects. She is fluent in Spanish and has led initiatives and high performing teams in a variety of corporate, public and non-profit settings in both the U.S. and Mexico. Previously, she was Director of Marketing and Corporate Communications for the San Diego Workforce Partnership. * * * * * Carlos David Malamud, Vice-President and Secretary, Sunbelt Real Estate, San Diego, is a real estate broker and investor. He was born in Mexico City and educated at Universidad Iberoamericana. He volunteers for a variety of organizations including La Jolla Rotary Club, The Old Globe Theatre Board and San Diego Museum of Art Board. In the past, he has been affiliated with the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce, School of IR/PS at UCSD, Hospital for the Children of the Californias, Hispanic American University Foundation, Mainly Mozart, McCaleb Dance Company and San Diego Ocean's Foundation. |
