"Empowering Your Board to Succeed in Fundraising
vs. Challenging Them to Fail"

Discover how to engage and empower your board to work with you in raising funds for your organization. Best practices and functional handouts will be presented for use in working with your board. Learn techniques for recruiting and orientation that result in a board that will make contributions to and raise money for your organization.

Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Understand how to engage their board members in fundraising in an effective and efficient way.
     

  • Empower themselves and their boards to work together to meet fundraising goals.
     

  • Have information that will allow them to recruit and engage board members effectively in fundraising.
     

  • Have handouts and real examples that can serve as a reference for board recruitment, cultivation and partnership.

Target Audience:

This session is most useful for rookie to mid-level depending on their depth of fundraising experience.

About the Presenter:

Barbara Talisman is Director of Development at Chicago Cares. Since 1988, Barbara has worked with numerous organizations to build their capacity to raise more money and diversify their revenue sources. Her expertise ranges from corporate sponsorships and special events to board development and major gift solicitation as well as volunteer and staff development and training. Barbara teaches a variety of fundraising topics and has been a guest speaker at conferences throughout the United States, Canada, the U.K. and Australia .

Barbara received the President’s Award from the AFP Chicago Chapter for outstanding service to the chapter and fundraising profession. She also serves on a number of AFP committees and is proud to be a member of the Chicago chapter of AFP.
